As-is units are the cheap end and they are not sold watertight. They are sold on condition, described plainly, and we will tell you what is wrong with one before you buy it rather than after. If the contents have to stay dry, buy cargo-worthy.
The 40ft question in grain and grazing country
Per cubic metre it is the cheapest storage you can buy that does not need a slab, a permit or a builder. For a grower holding fertiliser between seasons, or a contractor whose gear grew faster than the shed did, the arithmetic is not close.
The trade-off is that a 40ft is effectively permanent once it is placed. Moving one again means the same truck, the same room and the same money as the first delivery, so it is worth walking the spot properly before the day rather than deciding where it goes while the driver waits.
It is also worth thinking about doors. A 40ft has cargo doors at one end only unless you go to a side-opening unit, so the far end becomes deep storage you reach past everything else to get to. Growers who load and unload constantly often end up happier with two 20s despite the higher total price.
The catch is never the price, it is the placement. A 40ft needs a long straight approach and a sidelifter usually needs around 30m of working room to stand up on its legs. On a paddock or a hardstand that is nothing. Down a Blackbutt range driveway it can be the difference between a delivery and a phone call explaining why not.

What does a 40ft container cost delivered in the South Burnett?
Guide pricing starts at $2,600 used cargo-worthy and $5,500 new single-trip, both ex GST. The delivered figure depends on the grade and the run — a drop at Coolabunia is a different number to one out past Proston. Ring (07) 4141 7699 and you will get one figure with the cartage already in it.
Can I see the container before it is delivered?
Yes. We do not hold a public yard, so what we do instead is send photographs of the actual unit with the serial number visible, on request, before delivery. That is the point at which to say no if it is not right.
Is a cargo-worthy 40ft sold watertight?
Every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it is loaded — someone climbs in, shuts the doors and looks for daylight, sounds the floor and works the door gear. As-is units are the cheaper grade and are not sold watertight; the faults are described before you buy. If the contents must stay dry, buy cargo-worthy or new.
Can a 40ft get down a range driveway at Blackbutt or Yarraman?
Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming either way. The limits are the turning circle at the gate, the gradient, and whether the vehicle can find level ground to place from. Where a sidelifter cannot work, a crane truck occasionally can. Photographs of the gateway, the driveway and the intended spot settle it before anyone books a vehicle.
How much notice do you need for a 40ft?
It depends on grade, size and what is available that week rather than on any fixed lead time, and availability genuinely moves. Ring and you will be told a real date. Ground conditions matter too — after decent rain on red soil or on the black flats near Murgon we will move a delivery a couple of days rather than risk a recovery.
