Where a 10ft is genuinely the right call in the South Burnett
The honest answer is: less often than people expect. Out here most blocks have room, and on a farm or an acreage lot the 20ft is cheaper per cubic metre and easier to resell. We will say that on the phone before we sell you the dearer box.
Where it does earn its keep is inside existing structures. A 10ft fits into a machinery shed bay as a lockable room without giving up the whole bay, which is how a lot of growers keep spray chemical, tooling and spare parts separate from the general shed clutter.
The other regular buyer is the older town block. Parts of Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon have deep narrow allotments with the house set hard against one boundary and a single-width drive down the side. A 20ft will not turn into most of those and a crane lift over the roof costs more than the container. A 10ft on a tilt-tray usually will.
Worth understanding before you ask why the small one costs more than the big one: a 10ft does not come off a ship at that length. It is cut down from a longer unit and the end wall rebuilt, so the price is a fabricator's hours rather than steel. Where a 20ft physically fits, a 20ft is the better buy every time.

What does a 10ft container cost delivered in the South Burnett?
Guide pricing starts at $4,350 used cargo-worthy and $6,400 new single-trip, both ex GST. The delivered figure depends on the grade and the run — a drop at Coolabunia is a different number to one out past Proston. Ring (07) 4141 7699 and you will get one figure with the cartage already in it.
Can I see the container before it is delivered?
Yes. We do not hold a public yard, so what we do instead is send photographs of the actual unit with the serial number visible, on request, before delivery. That is the point at which to say no if it is not right.
Is a cargo-worthy 10ft sold watertight?
Every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it is loaded — someone climbs in, shuts the doors and looks for daylight, sounds the floor and works the door gear. As-is units are the cheaper grade and are not sold watertight; the faults are described before you buy. If the contents must stay dry, buy cargo-worthy or new.
Is a 10ft easier to move later?
Considerably. A 10ft can be picked up on a standard tilt-tray with far less room to line up, which matters if the unit is likely to shift around a property or move with you. That flexibility is part of what you are paying the extra for.
How much notice do you need for a 10ft?
It depends on grade, size and what is available that week rather than on any fixed lead time, and availability genuinely moves. Ring and you will be told a real date. Ground conditions matter too — after decent rain on red soil or on the black flats near Murgon we will move a delivery a couple of days rather than risk a recovery.
